Washington State Certified Asbestos Classes
- Asbestos Worker
- Asbestos Supervisor
If you are coming to Washington with a certification from another state, you must meet all of the following to gain certification in Washington:
- Possess a current valid certification from the other state
- Washington's L&I must evaluate the other state's qualification procedures and determine if the certification meets Washington's minimum requirements
- Take a one-day refresher
- Present two forms of valid identification

EPA Certified Asbestos Classes
- Asbestos Building Inspector
- Asbestos Management Planner
- Asbestos Project Designer
If you are coming to Washington with a certification from another state, your certification will be accepted here. Washington has no state-based certification program for AHERA asbestos classes. However, your certification must be current (not-expired).
If you are going to another state from Washington, certification rules will vary. Many states do not have state-based certification programs for AHERA asbestos classes. Lead Certification Classes
- Lead Inspector
- Lead Risk Assessor
- Lead Abatement Worker
- Lead Abatement Supervisor
- Lead Project Designer
These classes are regulated by Washington State Department of Commerce. You will be granted reciprocity if you are currently certified (not expired) by another state, tribe or EPA program in the same discipline (specialty) for which you are applying to Washington. If reciprocity is granted, you do not have to meet the eligibility requirements for first-time certification such as training, experience and examination.

Lead Renovator (Renovation, Repair, and Paint) Classes
- Lead Renovator 8 hr (Renovation, Repair, and Paint)
- Dust Sampling Technician
These classes are currently regulated by federal EPA and have no reciprocity requirements in Washington. However, it is anticipated that in early 2011 these classes will become regulated by Washington State Department of Commerce. Reciprocity at that time will have requirements for Washington (details to be determined).

These classes do not have any specific reciprocity requirements in Washington. However, their content must reflect applicable Washington State regulations, which may be different from the federal regulations or from the state regulations on which a person’s original training was based.
